Modem Problems

When you try to use your modem, does it make any sounds?

If your modem is dialing, you should be able to hear it pick up the line, generate a dial tone, and dial like a touch tone phone.

If your modem makes dialing noises but does not connect correctly, your settings are probably incorrect. If it is not dialing, it may not be installed correctly.

If you hear a sound, but are not sure that it is your modem, or you do not think your modem makes any noise when it dials, click I do not know below.

Does your modem make noise when you try to use it?

Do you receive a message about network protocols?

When you try to connect to the Internet, do you receive a message similar to one of the following?
"The protocol is not configured."

or

"A dial-up connection could not be established."

Is there a problem with your modem connections?

Consult the documentation that came with your modem to verify that your modem is correctly connected to your computer and to your phone line. Make sure that all cables are securely connected to the appropriate ports.
